Multiple Explosions, Fire Rock Chemical Plant

Loud explosions rocked a North Wales community after a massive fire broke out at a chemical factory.

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries following multiple explosions and a fire at the Synthite chemical factory in Mold in Flintshire, Wales. North Wales Fire and Rescue was called to the site at 2:06 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30.

Witnesses told ITV Wales they heard several loud explosions in the area.

North Wales Police warned people to avoid the area, saying the local road remains closed for the "foreseeable future."

About 20 workers and contractors were evacuated and a police cordon was put up around the factory. Some homes were evacuated, a road was closed, and other residents were told to close all their doors and windows.

BBC reported that videos and photos from the scene showed roaring flames rising through the roof of the factory. Local Councillor Brian Lloyd started to walk to the factory to investigate after reports of a fire.

He was turned back and told to return home and close his windows and doors. The Councillor heard several explosions from the site.

At around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, four crews, the Hazardous material Unit, the Welfare Unit, and the Aerial Ladder Platform remained in attendance tackling reports of a fire in the production area. The fire eventually was brought under control but crews remained at the scene.
